Police

The police are people empowered to enforce the law & reduce civil disorder.

In 1812, Sir Robert Peel introduced the Royal Irish Constabulary with such great success, that in 1829 the Metropolitan Police Act was passed which provided permanently appointed & paid constables. The Policemen were known as "Peelers" due to them being created by Sir Robert Peel, but later became more commonly known as "Bobbies"!

The "Peelers" were issued with a wooden truncheon, a pair of handcuffs & a wooden rattle which was later replaced with a whistle..
To become a Peeler you had to be 6ft tall & have no history of any wrong-doings.

Policeman Fancy Dress can be found here, along with Convicts & Robbers Fancy Dress too!

Doctor's & Nurses

This is a great theme for Hen & Stag Nights. If you're going to a Night Club, arrange a section of the nightclub for "Emergency Shots"!

We have loads of fun gimmicks such as a Jumbo Syringe & Nurses Syringe Garter.

You can be saucy Doctors & Nurses from Carry On Matron or Deadly Serious with a splash of Fake Blood!

There is so much potential for this theme & lots of fun!

Fire Brigade

It is believed that the first organised fire-fighting originated in the UK during the Roman Invasion in AD43.
At that time, buckets of water & very simple syringes were used to squirt water at the fire.

It was after the Great Fire of London in 1666 that things began to change & improve. A property developer, Nicholas Barbon was the first to introduce an insurance against fire. Soon after the initial set up of his Insurance company, he formed his own Fire Brigade. This was to reduce the cost & number of claims.
Many Insurance companies were formed thereafter, only extinguishing the fires that had the Insurance Policy with their company. In turn, many buildings burned down.

The Fire Services Act (1947) became effective on the 1st of April 1948.
In 1974 following local government re-organisation many brigades were amalgamated, losing many City and County Borough Fire Brigades.
There are at present 63 brigades in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Ambulance Service

The Ambulance / Emergency Services are dedicated to providing out of hospital acute medical care and / or transport to hospital for patients with illnesses and injuries which the patient or the medical practitioner believes constitutes a medical emergency.
The modern ambulance service developed as a result of the 1946 National Health Services Act when local authorities were required to provide ambulances 'where necessary'.
Initially, ambulances were staffed by volunteers transporting the sick and injured to hospital for treatment. Professionals were gradually introduced & in 1964 it was recommended that the ambulance service should provide treatment in addition to transporting patients.
The extended training required to meet the introduction of more clinical care led to the State Registration of Paramedics. Paramedics in the UK are autonomous practitioners who provide treatments and diagnostics without seeking authorisation from doctors.
